2 years since I started playing shmups, and 1 year after I cleared Dodonpachi, I have cleared all of the Dodonpachi games. 2 years ago, clearing SDOJ would have been unthinkable to me, and even 1 year ago it seemed far out of reach. Back then I left a comment on PAN's 1cc guide video (<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJz-XRsrIck>) saying I'd save it for when I'm ready for SDOJ in 10 years. Turns out I only needed one.

Despite being as brutal as I'd heard, SDOJ is surprisingly lenient with the amount of lives and bombs you get(at least with autobomb off). Realizing that I could die twice before stage 5 and still have a reasonable clear chance was a big confidence booster. It still took around 10 hours of runs before getting this clear, after around 30 hours of practice. My records show a total of 42 hours, split between FBNeo and the recomp.

I thought about doing save state practice in FBNeo and doing full runs in the recomp, but the slowdown differences and tiny bit of extra input lag in the recomp made be go with FBNeo. More than the input lag, I felt like there was some input inconsistency that was eating my bomb inputs - could be just player error, but it put me off doing runs. The recomp has more slowdown than FBNeo, which I thought would make things easier but just ended up throwing off my timing since I practiced so much in FBNeo.

I will probably put together more detailed notes about my route and how it differs from PAN's at some point. I took a lot of tips from @NarrowingType's comment on PAN's video, with a big one being not using autobomb for a basic 1cc since you get so many more bombs.

Between this and Touhou 7 Lunatic, I've achieved my two big shmup goals for the year, so will take some time to mess around and think about my next big goals. Some on my mind are DOJ 1-loop Hibachi clear, Ketsui Matsuri / Omote, and something old school like Same! Same! Same! or Raiden.
